Boo! at the Zoo
A Family-Friendly Halloween-Themed Extravaganza
Every year, when the leaves begin to fall and children’s minds begin to turn toward thoughts of trick-or-treating, the Brookfield Zoo holds a special event. We’ve been the sponsor of Boo! at the Zoo, a family-friendly Halloween-themed extravaganza, since 2016. There, more than 400 employees volunteer to staff trick-or-treat stations, sharing 10,000 pounds of donated candy to help guests have an even sweeter time.
Local Residents Join in the Fun
On top of this bevy of treats, local park districts in the communities where Ferrara facilities are located, including Forest Park, Bellwood, Maywood, Bolingbrook, Itasca
The 2018 Boo! at the Zoo was held Saturdays and Sundays, October 13th to the 28th. Families and the young-at-heart enjoyed treats from our candy stations, watched a professional carve up giant pumpkins, participated in arts and crafts, hopped on a haunted hayride and more!
While a fun-filled endeavor, this is a herculean effort that is only made possible by the efforts of our people.
- 70,000+ visitors from across Chicagoland came to the event over the three weekends
- 400+ Ferrara volunteers graciously gave up their weekends to hand out candy, spin the prize wheel, and made the event enjoyable for not only zoo guests, but for one another
- 27,000+ pounds of candy were donated and gobbled up by happy families, who actually came to Boo! at the Zoo this year looking for their favorite Ferrara candy brands!
- 600 residents of communities where our facilities are located were provided complimentary zoo admission as part of our ongoing outreach efforts to share delights with our neighbors
