Lemonheads Reunite with Old Buddies at Candy Expo

Lemonhead candies are celebrating their 55th birthday this year. The tart treat has long been a staple of the Chicago-based Ferrara Candy Company, a classic American confectioner that traces its roots back to 1908. The company is keeping it old school, churning out countless Chuckles, Jujyfruits, Red Hots, Boston Baked Beans, and, of course, Lemonheads.

Now the iconic Lemonhead has reunited with his old buddies. At the recently held Sweets & Snacks Expo, Ferrara revealed that it is bringing back the beloved Alexander the Grape, Mr. Melon and Johnny Apple Treats. The items will be housed in retro-styled packaging and will cost only a quarter.

“We’re proud of our long and successful partnership with Ferrara and the significant growth and brand expansion our candy portfolio achieved over many years,” said Scott Dahnke, Global Co-CEO of L Catterton. “Ferrara is a great company, with iconic brands and the best talent in the industry. We are pleased to have partnered with Ferrara’s management team to help drive the company’s success during a period of significant change in the candy industry. This transaction represents a terrific outcome for Ferrara and L Catterton, and we are confident that Ferrara will thrive and reach new heights in collaboration with Ferrero.”

Lemonheads, Jujyfruits and Boston Baked Beans will also be offered in a new package, giving consumers another option besides the theater box. All items will be available at Walgreens.
