Over 500 Books Collects in Charity Book Drive

By Salmon Borre Group —

Ferrara Candy Company, headquartered in Oakbrook Terrace, and best known for brands including Lemonhead, Red Hots, Brach’s and Trolli, collected more than 500 books and $300 in gift cards during the Company’s recent book drive to benefit the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services.

As one of Ferrara’s Engagement Council initiatives, designed to involve employees across the company’s five Chicagoland facilities in activities that directly benefit the local communities in which they live and work, the book drive solicited donations of books and gift cards. Donation bins were placed at each of Ferrara’s facilities in Oakbrook Terrace, Bellwood, Forest Park, Maywood and Bolingbrook, making it convenient and easy for employees to drop-off items.

“We’re excited to kick off this year’s Engagement Council initiatives with such an easy yet important opportunity for our team members to get involved with and to give back,” said Marlene Evans, IT Director, Finance/HR at Ferrara Candy Company. “Reading is vital to a child’s development and building a solid foundation to continue their education. We’re happy we can support and give back to the children in our communities.”

Employees were specifically asked to donate new or gently used books geared towards pre-teens and teenagers, new or gently used books for younger children and gift cards to purchase books from stores.

Since beginning the collection process in February, Ferrara Candy Company employees have donated 562 new/gently used books and $300 in gift cards, which will be delivered to the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services Chicago Book Drive on April 7.
